Nigeria State Health Investment Project: Results-based financing

In line with the directives of the World Bank; the National Primary Health Care Development Agency; the Federal Ministry of Health; the Ondo State Ministry of health and the Ondo State Primary Health Care Board, the Ondo State HMB have been working endlessly to ensure the strengthening of our General and State Specialist Hospitals to provide effective and efficient referral services to our health Centre’s.

These are being implemented by

  • Supervision of at least once per quarter of minimum of 50% of all secondary health facilities.
  • Conduct at least two Monthly Meetings with Results-Based Facilities Hospitals during the past quarter.
  • At least one half hour training on one specific topic, during the monthly Hospital staff meetings.
  • Production of monthly hospital Health Management Information System(HMIS) report which must be entered in the HMIS database and Report Printed
  • Production of monthly Activity Calendar which must be made available.
  • Participation in the Quarterly LGA Performance-Based Financing (PBF) Steering Committee Meetings.
  • Quarterly Quality Performance Evaluation of all PBF hospitals must be carried out..

Research for Health

The HMB has conducted research on facilities utilization and mortality patterns using hospitals base data. Some of the researches are:

  • Evaluation of secondary health facilities
  • Client satisfaction survey
  • Needs assessment

Health information Management system

Ondo State Hospitals Management Board, Akure conducted  A-2-day training program for hospitals managers which took place at the state information technology a gency Adekunke Ajasin Board Akure.
On Tuesday,27th &Wednesday 29th January 2020.

Human Resources for Health.

  • The HMB regularly recruits various categories of staff for all the secondary health facilities across the state and over 3000 health workers had been recruited in the last few years.
  • Promotion and staff cadre conversion exercise is regularly being done as motivating tool to encourage staff to put in their best at work places
  • HMB has continuously ensured that appropriate and adequate numbers of personnel were placed in all health services points within the limits of available human resources
  • Training on civil services rules for newly recruited staff as well as On-the-job training is regularly being was carried out in HMB

Health Services Delivery

Hospitals management board akure  conducted a 3days residential Training on life saving skills for doctors in secondary health facilities

Leadership and Governance for Health

The HMB provides overall leadership and governance in the management and control of all secondary and some selected health centre’s in the state. The HMB have been doing this through the following processes:

  • Planning (setting goals &objectives)
  • Organizing the facilities by ensuring order in the deployment of material resources
  • Staffing (ensuring adequate and appropriate numbers of staff)
  • Leading by example, directing affairs of hospitals through collaboration and empowerment of heads of the facilities
  • Controlling and implementing government policies on health such as Abiye Safe Motherhood Programme

Monitoring and Evaluation to ensure that the pre-determine vision, mission, goals and objectives of the programmes are met
